Louise Gelderblom, Ceramicist
Ceramics refer to the process of working with clay, while pottery refers to functional items made with clay… Louise is definitely a ceramicist.
She trained as a Visual Artist at Stellenbosch University and graduated in 1986. Her studio is in Cape Town and her work is represented in various national and international collections.
Louise has been working with clay for almost 30 years and make one-off ceramic pieces that sing in a non-verbal way. She specialises in very large sculptural forms. Each piece is unique, and hand made by Louise. This is a very slow process and as such ceramic production is part of her daily life.
